Our seventh chakra, Crown Chakra, in Sanskrit is Sahasrara Chakra. It is associated with the thousand petal lotus. The Sanskrit name Sahasrara means thousand petals and is above the head. The Crown Chakra is also associated with the pineal and pituitary glands (which some sources also associate with the Third Eye or Brow Chakra). The Crown Chakra is associated with our connection to our higher self where our spirituality, enlightenment, inner wisdom, and connection to the guidance of the cosmos/universe all come together. When these energies unite, the sensory experience is bliss. The aspects of this experience are:
Grace
Serenity
Union or oneness with the universe and everything in it
Reaching self-actualization or fulfillment and a connection to the divine
Sourcing the energy and guidance of angels, God, and the universe
Realizing that you are a soul that is in a body and not a human with a soul
Location of the Crown Chakra:
It's associated with the fontanelle which is the soft spot on the skull of a baby. When the soft spot closes, the infinite universe and super consciousness is locked in. For many of us, our ego and our personality take over and our connection to the infinite universe fades. (source: The Chakra Bible by Patricia Mercier, published by Sterling NY 2007)
Stillness to Connect to the Divine
The physical action to activate our Crown chakra is meditation or stillness. There are three stages of exercising our mind to connect with the divine: concentration, meditation and contemplation. When we begin, we have to work on concentration. That means concentrating on the stillness and connecting to our inner consciousness. You may focus on an abstract object. The focus is just kept on this object. For example, focus on a candle flame in your mind and nothing else. Don't let your mind wander to other ideas such as the heat, colour of the candle, type of holder, etc. Just focus on one thing: the flame. When we are able to concentrate on the flame, we reach the meditation stage where we expand on this experience. Meditation happens when the concentration just happens or it doesn't take effort and the energy around the object of focus expands. Meditation is when our consciousness expands. This takes practice. For many of us, the third phase is rarely reached and this is where our connection to our inner self deepens. When this connection deepens, we reach the contemplation stage. The contemplation stage is where our inner self joins our super consciousness (higher self). Our karma is released and our link to the infinite universe is achieved. This is bliss. Deepening our connection to our inner self and uniting with our higher self is a goal that a lot of us have when working with energy healing modalities and our spirituality. We have to remember that we must ensure our other chakras are being worked on as well. For instance, if we only do our work on the Crown Chakra and ignore our Root Chakra, we risk not being grounded and this could harm our physical bodies. Someone who is not looking after their basic physical needs such as food and shelter but is trying very hard to connect with the divine will not be healthily enough to do this safely. This results in adopting beliefs that will be false. False beliefs lead to arrogance and being unable to receive true knowledge and connection with the infinite universe. Connecting to the infinite universe brings you truths and this can happen when you look after your:
Physical self (the Root Chakra)
Creativity, joy, healthy relationships (the Sacral Chakra)
Healthy self-esteem and personal growth (the Solar Plexus)
Love, emotional health, self-love, forgiveness (the Heart Chakra)
Self expression, speaking and listening to truths (the Throat Chakra)
Clear thoughts and visions before acting and obtaining wisdom (the Third Eye Chakra)
When we work on our Crown chakra, we need to get the prana, that vital life force, flowing through each of the chakras as it reaches up and out through our Crown Chakra and flow back in through our Crown to our Root. When prana is not reaching our Crown Chakra, because either there is too much (stagnant) or too little (blocked), we can be affected physically and emotionally in the following ways:
Depression, anxiety, confusion
Lack of purpose
Blood vessel problems, skin rashes, neuralgia
Inability to learn (problems with focus and concentration)
Sensitivity to light and sound
Mental fog
Lack of empathy
Rigidity of beliefs
Lack of faith in oneself, low self-esteem, lack of purpose
To help balance our Crown Chakra, so that we can feel serene, be self aware, connect to the infinite universe and feel whole, it is important to practice healthy eating, activities and self-care to keep us balanced: meaning to bring our physical body, our mind and spirit in alignment.
